How 'Bout Some Self-Love this Holiday

boundaries holidayhustle holidayseason lettinggo sayingno selflove Dec 17, 2024

As the holidays are in full swing, I want to take a moment to recognize that emotions are running high. They might be happy, adrenaline-fueled joy; they might be heavy and grief-ladden.

Maybe you’re holding two very different kinds of emotions at once. Whatever you’re feeling today, this week - I want you to honor your feelings and emotions.

So this week, you have full permission to say NO. Permission granted to honor your own boundaries. Permission granted to tune out the noise. Permission to do whatever it is YOU need to do to take care of you.

The most important part of self-care is taking care of yourself - and to do that, you often have to say no to many other things.

Here are some ways to do that this week…

🚫 Use ‘no’ as a full sentence. Instead of thinking that every time you say no, you’re letting someone down (that train of thought is hard to break free from!!), how about we try this: every time I say no, I get the opportunity to say YES to something that I really want or need. When I say YES to everything, I usually end up with an empty tank. Saying ‘no’ to something else lets you say ‘yes’ to yourself.

😍 Honor your boundaries as an act of self-love. Sometimes when we decide to say no, we find ourselves in less-than-ideal situations. You might get pushback, looks of disbelief, or unkind words. However, only you can be the judge of what you really need (and don’t need!). Honoring your boundaries is a powerful act of self-love; advocating for what you need more than what others need is an incredible gift to give yourself this holiday season.

🧘‍♀️ Permission granted to tune out the noise. There is so much noise in the world. While it is great to stay informed and engaged – be it through social media, the news, co-workers, etc. – check how you’re feeling the next time you find yourself ‘engaging.’ If the things you consume don’t leave you feeling energized, supported, or encouraged, you have permission to put it down and tune it out. Give your body, heart, and mind time to rest knowing that you’ll be better equipped to tune back in after a break.

Go on strike for the day. In this productivity-crazed world we live in, it can be hard to feel like doing “nothing” is a worthwhile endeavor. But sometimes, we just need to rest. If you’re feeling burdened and low, give yourself permission to take the day off (or at least a few hours) from everything! Take some time where you actually truly rest and do NOTHING. Your body and spirit will be so grateful.

I hope your holidays are whatever you need them to be this year. Let go of perfectionism, stay in the moment, and look for the joy in the everyday things.

Believing in YOU,
~ Coach D. xoxo
