Summer Fun: Enjoy the Sun

Summer is right around the corner! Temps are up, spirits are high and if you’re anything like me, all I want to do is be outside in this glorious weather!

 

This month, I’m sharing my tips and tricks for how to have a fun-filled summer that also incorporates moving your body and prioritizing your overall wellness. As schedules change and we find ourselves in a different kind of routine, it can feel challenging to prioritize your fitness goals – but fear not! I’ve got you covered.

 

This week, I’m sharing all the ways you can enjoy the beautiful summer weather and incorporate fitness into the mix. Scroll down to check them out!

Here are my favorite ways to move and appreciate the summer sun

 

Take it Outside: Whatever you love to do, take it outside! Weekly catch up with a friend? Take it outside on walk – or take the phone call while you get some steps in while enjoying the sun. Take your run from the treadmill to the great outdoors! Have a park nearby? Take your workout to the park! Sign up for a sunrise beach yoga class to soak in all that summer has to offer! Love a quickie no-equipment workout? Take it outside! Find my favorite bodyweight blast that you can do anywhere below!

 

Get Nourished by Nature: There are so many beautiful nature-filled spaces wherever you live. Change it up on the weekends or with friends and find some new-to-you spots to enjoy a walk or hike. Find a route near a body of water that you can explore while basking in summer’s glorious season.

 

Prioritize Sun Safety: Remember to stay hydrated and drink plenty of water before, during, and after your workout. Make sure that you apply sunscreen, wear a hat, and use sunglasses to protect from UV rays. With hotter temps, make sure you listen to your body, taking breaks if needed. 

 

Let’s enjoy the scenery of summer! Take advantage of the beautiful outdoor environment to boost your mood and motivation. Stay active, enjoy the fresh air, and have fun with your outdoor workouts this summer!

Coach D’s *FREE* Summer Bodyweight Blast

Warm-Up (5 minutes)

  • Light jog or brisk walk
  • Dynamic stretches: high knees, butt kicks, and torso rotations

Bodyweight Workout (3 rounds)

  1. High Knees: 1 minute
    • Jog in place, bringing knees up to waist
  2. Walking Lunges: 10 reps ea leg
    • Lunge forward, alternating legs
  3. Push-Up to T-Pose: 12 total reps
    • Perform 1 push-up & then rotate to a side plank, reaching arm up
    • Alternate sides
  4. Skaters: 1 minute
    • Jump side-to-side, landing on one foot & bring the other foot behind you
  5. Sit-Ups: 20 reps
    • Standard sit-ups, reaching for your knees on each rep  

Cool Down (5 minutes)

  • Walk slowly and stretch your muscles
