And just like that we're half-way through November... 2022 is winding down and we can't help but look ahead to the new year... What's it going to bring? What can I change? What can I break free from so I can fully commit to myself and my health?

As we embark on this journey to break free in order to "BE ME", a healthier me, that means letting go of all the things that are holding us back. Despite how contradictory this might sound, sometimes that means breaking free from our goals.

What?!

Here me out, Marissa, – you know I love a good goal!! I’m all about building sustainable habits that help you transform your lifestyle in order to meet your goals. But sometimes we can get hung up on the goals themselves and forget about the habits and the lifestyle piece.

For example, maybe you set a goal to lose 30lbs by the end of the year. As part of our FIERCE tribe, you come to workouts, you start choosing whole, nourishing foods, you prioritize your sleep and you’re hitting your water intake and step count each day. But, at the end of the year, you haven’t lost 30 pounds.

Does that mean you failed? Of course not! You developed healthy habits for an entire year that transformed your old lifestyle into one where you are consistently making choices that honor your body.

OLD way of thinking: I didn’t lose 30 pounds at the end of the year = goal failure.

NEW formula of success: I showed up for myself and my workouts + I consistently chose foods that fuel my body + I built habits of hitting my water intake and step count most days = success!

So let me say it once again: let go of the goals that require you to fixate on the specific destination.

Release yourself from the pressures of focusing on a number instead of a lifestyle. Say “no thank you” to goals that hold you back and don’t celebrate the hard work you’ve made along the way.

As we continue to break free from who we USED to be, this an opportunity to learn from your past experiences. Throughout this process, you might find yourself discarding ideas and habits that have been a part of your identity for a long time!

While it can be challenging to dig deep and break free, particularly if you feel like these are pieces of yourself that you’ve held onto for years, instead, let this experience highlight the fact that there is no purpose for goals that hold you back in your life right now.

Let’s flip the script! Instead of feeling down about not meeting our “hyper specific” goals, feel liberated that you are BREAKING FREE from a way of thinking that no longer serves you!

REMEMBER:

There is no should when it comes to who you should be.

There is no specific destination that everyone should be at. And you’re not missing out or falling behind if your goals, habits, wants, and desires look different from those around you.

You are EXACTLY where you’re supposed to be; let’s continue to BREAK FREE from all that is holding us back–ways of thinking, ways of doing, and ways of being that no longer serve the real, true YOU.

Together, we can take it step by step, day by day.
