I hope this note finds you well, filled with the warmth of the summer sun and the joy of new experiences. Yesterday, I celebrated my 44th birthday and I wanted to take a moment to share a story of resilience, love, and the strength that lies within each and every one of us.

As many of you know, my fiancé, Fran, his son, Owen, and I had been eagerly looking forward to embarking on a grand adventure down the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway, from the beautiful city of Seattle all the way to sunny San Diego. It was going to be a journey filled with breathtaking views, cherished memories, and the freedom of the open road. However, life had other plans for us.

In the past few months, our lives took an unexpected turn as both Fran's mother and my own father faced health challenges. We found ourselves navigating a whirlwind of emergency room visits, surgeries, and even the devastating news of a cancer diagnosis. In the face of such adversity, we knew that our road trip dreams would have to be put on hold.

While it would have been easy to succumb to disappointment... because there we definitely lots of moments of utter despair, we chose to embrace this new reality with a profound sense of gratitude and an unwavering commitment to our loved ones. In times like these, it becomes crystal clear that our priorities must shift, reminding us of the true essence of being human—caring, supporting, and being there for those who matter most.

Through these challenging times, we have discovered the resilience that resides within us. We have learned that we are capable of facing the unexpected head-on, adapting to change, and making sacrifices when necessary. We have witnessed the power of love, empathy, and the strength that comes from rallying together as a family.

As I reflect on this unique journey we are on, I am overwhelmed with gratitude. Gratitude for the incredible medical professionals who have provided exceptional care, gratitude for the friends and family who have showered us with support, and gratitude for the strength we have found within ourselves. It is through these trials that we discover the depth of our own character and the boundless capacity we possess to overcome life's hurdles.

While our road trip may have been postponed, the lessons we have learned along the way are priceless. We are reminded that life is a constant ebb and flow, and our ability to adapt with grace and courage is what truly defines us. Our journey continues, not on the open road, but in the loving presence of our parents, ready to be by their side whenever they need us.

So today, as I embark on my 45th trip around the sun, I ask you to join me in celebrating the resilience of the human spirit, the strength of love, and the unwavering bonds that tie us all together. Cherish every moment with your loved ones, and remember that we are all capable of doing hard things when we need to.
