Each Tuesday this month, we’ll focus on how to live fiercely every day, in the most practical of ways. As we finish out 2022 as stronger than we started, here are some ways to incorporate boundaries into your life during arguably the busiest month of the year.
1. It’s okay to say no!
You can only do so much each day and there’s truly no way to do it all. In order to live a life that is anchored by your values, you can’t say yes to everything. When you think about the holidays, what are 3 things you are really excited about? Write them on a post-it note and carry that list with you. As you consider saying yes, think to yourself - will this choice honor my values this holiday season?
2. Protect your peace.
When life gets crazy, you have to make time to recharge your batteries. Maybe your peace is protected through a sweaty workout or a girls night in; maybe some time alone is what you need. Make time and space to reset and recalibrate this holiday season so that you have the strength to give to those around you.
3. Take on uncomfortable conversations now for optimal comfort later.
Even though it can create feelings of major discomfort to share a boundary, it is so worth the momentary inconvenience. If you choose awkwardness now, you get rewarded with whatever you really want. On the flip side, if you skip the awkward conversation, you’re locked into something you really, really don’t want to do later, and oftentimes, for a longer period of time. Quick discomfort now leads to optimal peace later.
4. Boundaries help you get clear on who you are, what you want, and your values and belief systems.
Instead of fearing and shrinking away from your boundaries, remember that they serve as goal posts for where you are and where you want to be. They help clarify who you are and what you want to those around you. Don’t be afraid to let other people see that! Feeling a little lost and unsure of who you are and what you value? Break Free in '23 is a great way to start clearing the debris and getting back to basics.
“Daring to set boundaries is about having the courage to love ourselves even when we risk disappointing others.”
