Good Morning!

I hope this email finds you feeling warm, well, and optimistic for this week.

This month, we’re taking cues from my “I'm retiring” resolution list to see what we can let go of in 2023, and today's message is part 2.

Instead of focusing on what you want to ADD in 2023, can we take some things OFF our plate? If you’re anything like me, your plate is already full. Spilling over, even! It’s time to BREAK FREE from the things holding us back and to SHAKE OFF the habits, mindsets, and routines that are bringing us down and keeping us rooted in the past.

So, let’s start the new year SHEDDING the things that hold us back so that we can spend the year fresh, focused, and a whole lot LIGHTER.

We shook off avoiding rest and now we’re releasing:

comparing ourselves and our journey to anyone but ourselves

It’s easy to focus on anyone and everyone but our own goals, our own future, and our own path. It can be so easy to get caught in the comparison trap - I wish I looked like that, I had those things, I had that life.

And with social media, it’s become so much easier to “look” at the lives of so many other people, especially people we don’t even know. The comparison trap can feel all consuming and it always robs us of the joy we have in our own lives.

So how do we kick this to the curb, officially? How can we retire from comparing ourselves to others?

1. Commit to a gratitude practice.

I have found that the antidote to envy is gratitude. While it sounds easier said than done, I assure you, if you spend just 5 minutes writing down everything you’re grateful for, it will astonish you AND it will change the course of your day.
Focusing on what you DO have brings your vision back to YOU. When you feel yourself entering a comparison spiral, commit to putting down your phone and spending some time being thankful for what you already have.

A mantra for you:

"I am grateful for who I am and who I am becoming."

2. Don’t compare your life with someone’s “highlight” reel.

The real pitfall of social media is that it’s not real life. People use social media to post the really, really good stuff and we get tricked into believing that those highlight reels are real life.
We don’t actually know what’s going on in other people’s lives, and typically, the shinier exterior they build, the harder things are on the inside. Life is full of highs and lows, good days and bad days. Don’t let social media tell you otherwise!

A mantra for you:

"I give myself permission to embrace all sides of me."

3. Champion yourself, champion others.

There is no one else in the entire world who has your unique gifts and incredible talents. No one!
YOU are a gift to the world and a gift to those in your community. The simple act of being ourselves is a superpower in its own right. What a way to flip the script!
Think about those who are in your life – how can you use your superpowers to build them up this year? Have a friend struggling to commit to a workout routine this year?
Have a friend struggling with stress, grief, or overwhelm? Take something off her plate – send a meal, gift a coffee, run an errand. Have a friend who got some great news? Champion her to no end!!
Celebrate the successes of your people like they are your own. I love this moment of Jamie Lee Curtis celebrating her best friend Michelle Yeoh at the Golden Globes. When we are attuned to our own superpowers and committed to supporting our people, comparison loses its footing.

"Nobody is Me and that is my superpower!"

Comparison is the thief of joy. Let it go, focus on YOU, and feel the joy come back into your life.
